So this week two aspects about medical aid which we think you should be thinking about [and doing something about, sorry to say!].
In your financial plan for the future, which includes retirement amongst other things, how much are you budgeting to save each month specifically to pay your medical aid in retirement? Too many of us suddenly arrive at retirement and we are thrown for a loop – not once did we talk about one of the biggest expenses in retirement, namely medical aid contributions.
If you have not had advice about your options for this major expense, is it not time we talked?
The second aspect is that of being a member on a hospital plan. Make sure you understand what the other “freebies” are the hospital plan offers you. Of course, there are hospital plans and then there are hospital plans. And you may be unfortunate enough to be on a “hospital plan” – but with no “freebies.” If you find yourself here, you need to talk to us about upgrading so that some of the aspects listed below are covered.
And then you may be on a hospital plan which gives you a lot more than just the plan – and you need to work at understanding what these additional benefits are.
Checklist, briefly:
- Free mammogram?
- Free Pap smear?
- Prostate screening test? [Got to do it men!]
- Cholesterol screening?
- Blood glucose and blood pressure?
The year is drawing to a galloping close. Find time to start and finish a meaningful project which will benefit your greatly for the coming year – time we talked?
